Hi, I'm Valerie, a self-taught designer from Southern Africa residing in Northern Indiana.
Through my exposure as an immigrant, I've had the privilege of gaining a fluidity in cultural spaces that allows me to communicate creatively and directly to my audience. From designing brand identities for tech companies, to non-profit organizations and museums, I have helped brands attain a professional look while maintaining their own unique aestheticism and flair.
My greatest design inspirations are the first graphic designers to exist in Southern Africa, the Khoi, who painted iconography on cave walls to communicate to each other and the countless generations after them. While language and civilizations have since completely transformed, their design is timeless - still communicating today. I emulate this through the use of metaphorical symbols and tonal messaging through color and layout.
My background in community service has molded my design practices, encouraging me to think firstly of the end user's needs and identity. This has been the motivation behind furthering my skillset into UX, which has opened my mind to design that caters to all people regardless of age, disability, race, or any other societal barriers.
When I'm not designing, you can find me sharpening my video editing skills in Adobe Premiere Pro.
